My new favourite band.

Would be the delightful Kap10Kurt. I saw these guys at dollop last Friday at the Old Blue Last, and i have to say i was quite excited having don a myspace check up on them prior to the event and heard them soundcheck as well. Everything was looking pretty sweet, then they played.

Anyway, scroll back a little and dollop kicks off at around 9pm and slowly fills the Old Blue Last (which was looking pretty special with canvas up on all the walls for people to draw on all night) until it's icredibly busy for opening act, Battant. They slammed out a good quality set of fairly arty punk stuff that dealt pretty heavily in good old fashioned pop hooks, entertaining the relatively sober and slightly partisan crowd. Quick trip downstairs to get another beer and pop out for a quick smoke and a chat then back upstairs in time for main act, Kap10Kurt who, quite simply, blew me away. Using a laptop, a classic old roland synth (taped to a guitar strap and played around the region of the knees) and a very small drumkit, they rolled out something that akin to Shy Child, if Shy Child were really, really good (and i'm a fan of Shy Child, do not get me wrong) except the bass and synths were nastier, the beats more danceable and pounding and the hooks... epically catchy. I got home still grinning three hours after they finished and went straight to their myspace page where i sat for a good 1/2 hour. Subline stuff, and incredibly lovely people as well. I've rarely met bands so friendly. And they liked my shoes as well, extra bonus points there. Ha,

As I fallen for them so fast, i have a bunch of tracks for you, i can also recommend investing in the dangerseekers 12" picture disc as the art is very cool, and also comes with the original and Sinichi Osawa edit (if you don't know him you're doing something wrong and need to sort yourself out. Or at least listen to his edit of Boys Noize - Feel Good (Tv=off). Pick it up HERE or alternatively, look them up on any of the sites to the right of your screen.

kap10Kurt - Dangerseekers (Tepr edit)

Kap10Kurt - Dangerseekers (Rolf Honey mix) (This is Yusek , by the way)

Dave Gahan - Use You (K10K mix)

Closing the night was The Badical, who played a fun sounding laptop set of nasty electro, though i'm afraid to say i missed a substantial section of it as a few of my friends were "removed" from the premises and i had to go say by before they left. So maybe more on them another time, though worth a look in if they're ever round your way.

Sadly, having dragged loads of friends along to catch may favourites, most of them missed them. I hope they learn to kick themselves in due time. I think they're the best band i've seen since The Tough Alliance in September.

Also, on a warm note, i've rather been enjoying the weather of late (yes, i know, how typically english. Bollocks, it's true,) Anyway, on that note, here's a few tracks i really like that i think will be played to death this summer due to the fantastic vibe they have about them. Think, The Secret Handshake - Summer of '98 (Tapedeck mix), though in terms of that warm, summery sound, the acctual songs are quite different, from each other and the Tapedeck mix.

Primary 1 - Hold Me Down (The Shoes Mix)

Adam Kesher - Local Girl

Gonzales - Working Together

Oh, and this ammuses me. It's evidently old and referring to a certain outburst at the 2006 MTV awards. Tool.

Until next time,

Love.
